Te Araroa to become world's first regenerative through hike


'Regenerative' and 'sustainable' have become 2023 words of the year for parks, recreation and tourism ventures world wide. Organizations are looking to future generations of users to help fight the rapid decline in our planets natural wonders. Matt Claridge, executive director of the Te Araroa Trust wants to create an environment for through hikers of the iconic 3000km trail from Cape Reinga to Bluff to support in conservation efforts, connecting them to the wider community, other walkers, and the environment.


By engaging with local iwi, trail communities and volunteers, the aim is to support the hiking communities with better facilities and services, and in exchange inspire walkers and trail partners to invest in environmental initiatives.
