In one of the highest rate increases this year, South Wairarapa District Council have voted to increase the rates by 19.8%. Three councillors voted against the motion which now takes the total rates for the district up more than 50 percent over the last three years.
Councillor Aaron Woodcock, who voted against the increase, says he has been told by many rate payers that they can't afford to pay these new rates.
