Jo Macpherson

Department of Conservation Representative

Jo Macpherson has been a PLF board member since 2023. With nearly 40 years’ experience in conservation, based in Christchurch, she currently serves as the Operations Director for the Eastern South Island region at the Department of Conservation.

Jo’s extensive career at DOC has been marked by her commitment to preserving New Zealand’s natural and cultural heritage with a strong background working with communities. She holds a Degree in Resource Studies from Lincoln University and has also spent time working in the Tourism industry in Fiordland with Real NZ (Formerly Real Journeys).

Throughout her career, Jo has held various leadership roles within DOC, particularly on the West Coast. Leadership roles include Operations Manager in Franz Josef, South Westland, and Wakatipu. Her national experience includes her role as DOC’s Predator Free 2050 Community Manager, where she played a key role in enabling communities to engage in PF2050.

For Jo, leadership is all about making a positive impact, connecting with people, and forging lasting relationships to spark collaboration. She believes in the power of teamwork and knows that when people come together, amazing things can happen. Jo’s approach is not just about leading – it’s about inspiring, empowering and having a lot of fun along the way.
