The great walks aren't so great anymore, or rather unattainable for the masses as The Department of Conservation (DOC) is hiking its Great Walk prices, saying it is facing increasing budget pressures.
An increase of 18% will come in from July across Great Walk huts and campsites, but the Paparoa Track will only increase by 6%.
It comes after an influx in DOC accommodation prices that his visitors last year, with some huts doubling in price.The department said it had been more than four years since prices were reviewed while upkeep costs continued to climb.
