The award winning Hamilton Gardens that are the jewel in the crown of our growing city and which host over 1 million people visits each year. At Christmas last year the brains behind this unique facility and Gardens Director, Dr Peter Sergel, retired from his role. Peter is staying on in a part time role to help with our on-going development programme but we are now looking for a talented person to take over management and leadership of this important visitor destination as the new Director. It is an exciting time for the Gardens with Council committing to ongoing development of the themed gardens, the construction of a new visitor centre, enhancement of the visitor experience through a number of initiatives and looking at the possibility of charging for entry to the themed gardens for non-Hamiltonians.
Hamilton City Council have yet to find someone suitable for this awesome role. They are looking for an articulate person who has exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills, commercial nous, understanding and experience of the public and tourism sectors, energy and enthusiasm to work with Hamilton Waikato Tourism and our other visitor destinations, Hamilton Zoo and Waikato Museum, to enhance Hamilton’s offerings to visitors.
Reporting to the Visitor Destinations Unit Director as the Hamilton Gardens Director, the ideal candidate will develop a strategic and commercial approach for the Hamilton Gardens that maximises potential revenue opportunities, meets the best interests of the city, residents and stakeholders, and is in alignment with Council’s Long-Term Plan. The role will actively contribute within the Visitor Destinations unit, participating in the development and implementation of strategies related to the promotion and performance of the City’s Visitor Destinations.
